There are various types of traders, in various markets (and organisations). In the old days, traders used be driven by 'balls' (brains being more a handicap). Increasingly, maths has entered. In practice, however, the maths is pre-packaged by quants / software packages and requires just elementary knowledge to operate. 'Balls' remains key. Trading your own money in market investments is one ingredient. Most traders bet their money on anything that moves. One way to find out if you are a trader is to participate in trading games, where a dealing room environment is simulated. Some banks offer such games as part of their orientation programs. Warning: Many people want to be a trader, but few make it (and even less succeed). The world of a trader is not always a pretty one. And most traders start young. Tjemme
